Moving from Europe to Asia, the current second most expensive home on the planet (and priciest PRIVATE residence) is Antilia, the Mumbai residence named after a mythical island in the Atlantic. The land it is built on is used to house an orphanage. Antilia was designed by two US architecture firms: Perkins & Will, in Chicago, and Hirsch Bedner Associates, in Los Angeles, and construction started in 2006 and took four years. The interior design uses the shapes of the lotus and the sun. Owned by Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest person, is the proud owner of Reliance, an oil and gas firm and the second-biggest company in India. This 400,000-square-foot 27-floor building has an entire six floors dedicated to parking for the family´s guests! The 27 floors have double-high ceilings, so the building is really as high as 54 stories. It is designed to withstand earthquakes. As well as space for hundreds of staff, Antilia features a huge temple, luxurious guest suites, three helipads, an ice-cream parlor, a yoga studio, a health spa with indoor pools, a ballroom, and a movie theater. It even has a “snow room” where the family can cool off with snowflakes if India’s summer temperatures get a little too much!
