23. Portuguese Water Dog
Originating from the Algarve region of Portugal, the Portuguese Water Dog was bred and trained to herd fish into fishermen´s nets and act as couriers from ship to shore. Buying one of these dogs is expensive, costing up to $2,500 from a breeder. They are known to be brave, docile, and obedient. It would be best to adopt one instead. Also, their grooming costs are around $53 each visit, as they have an abundant (but minimally shedding) coat that needs regular brushing, clipping, and bathing. This breed has a life expectancy of between 10 to 14 years, with potential lifetime medical costs being around $2,700. Hip and elbow dysplasia may lead to arthritis.
