The Turkish Van cat was developed in the UK from Turkish breeds originating from the Van Lake region in southeastern Turkey. It is a semi-long-haired domestic cat with distinctive almond-shaped eyes which can glitter in different colors. Their head and the end of their tail are variously red, brown, and amber while the rest of their fur is white. Unusually for a cat the Turkish Van is a strong swimmer and loves the water! This cat can be prone to liver and respiratory issues but is a generally healthy breed that is smart and sociable and lives on average 12 to 17 years.
