This blue emerald-cut diamond is 14.62 carat—it actually amazed the audience present at a Christie’s auction at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva in May 2016 when it was purchased by an anonymous private collector for $57.5 million. An auctioneer recalls the bidding took over 20 minutes, with multiple bids settling down to two bidders that matched and raised each increment until the final world record price was set. The gem was named by a member of the Oppenheimer family, Sir Philip Oppenheimer.
